Terrified People Share The Creepy Things They’ve Witnessed

Unexplainable and creepy things happen every day. Most of us simply brush them off when they happen, or find an explanation anywhere we can, but other times it’s hard to shake the feeling that something is off. We live in a crazy, complex world, and sometimes our creepy experiences just can’t be explained be no matter how hard you think about them. These Redditors came to the internet to tell stories of the creepiest things they’ve ever witnessed, from the explainable to the surreally impossible. Turn down the lights and enjoy 50 of the creepiest things people have ever witnessed.

1. The Disappearing Lady

I was riding my bicycle down a narrow path. Maybe 30 meters in front of me was an elderly woman also on a bike. I was going fast and catching up with her quickly. I was a couple of meters from passing her when the path took a right turn and she was out of my sight for a second. I should have been right behind her after I, too, had taken the right turn, so imagine my surprise when she had just...vanished.

There was an open field to the left, a highly fenced off area with no gates to the right, and one straight road ahead of us—but no trace of her anywhere. I know the area well and there is no way she could have been hidden anywhere. This woman just went POOF, and it puzzles me to this day.

2. Watching the House

This happened a few months ago. I was driving down my street coming home after a night out, as soon as I approached my house I noticed a guy in a suit just standing across the street in the field looking at my house. I didn't want to pull into my house at that point so I just drove around my neighborhood. 10 minutes or so go by and I drive by again, he's still there and he hasn't moved.

At that point, I just drove around again, five more minutes and he's still just standing there, staring at my house. At that point, I just pulled into my driveway to see what he does. Absolutely nothing. He didn't even flinch, couple hours later he vanished. No idea who he was, but it still creeps me out.

3. Hot Around the Collar

I once witnessed a guy set himself on fire. I was working in a hospital and was walking through the main foyer with my colleague about to leave to go home when this guy walked in the main door soaking wet. My colleague turned to me and said, "Is it raining outside?" But just as the words were coming out his mouth the guy pulled out a lighter and went up like a torch.

Fortunately, some painter and decorators were working nearby and grabbed their dust sheets and just jumped on the guy. That’s when I found out the disturbing truth. It turns out he was a patient who had been receiving treatment for mental illness. He'd gone to the petrol station just across from the hospital and doused himself in petrol before coming in and setting himself alight.

Poor guy didn't make it and for a long while, you could still just see the faint marks on the floor where the rubber from his shoes had melted.

4. Spinning

I wouldn't call it creepy necessarily, just odd. Obligatory "background story": my brother passed on a few years back. When my mom and I would visit his grave, and a small pinwheel she'd put out there would spin. My mom swore that it would spin any time she'd visit. I never disagreed, as it would be rude to do so. But I didn't believe in anything like that.

However, I recently went to visit him—and I guess I was feeling bitter and cynical. So I said something along the lines of "I'm not an idiot, I know that thing will spin no matter what. You're not here anymore." Mind you—it was WINDY outside. And the thing just stopped spinning. Just stopped completely. I was shocked and cried for a little bit. I have no idea what it meant, or if I'm thinking about it too hard.

5. The Chihuahua

I'm a paramedic and had just put a car accident victim in a body bag. The coroner gave us the okay to load him up. He was wearing a heavy jacket and sweater so we just stuck him in the bag and began to load him. After we got underway to the morgue, I heard a terrifying noise. When I checked it out, the guy was thrashing around in the body bag violently. I was out of my mind.

My partner didn’t see it, but nevertheless, we pulled over, He goes back and opens the bag, while I was about to pee my pants. All of a sudden, a very small chihuahua jumped out and ran up to my partner. He must have been in the guy’s jacket pocket or somewhere else? Maybe he’d been knocked out or just quiet until we got underway.

It took me the rest of the shift to relax after that. 32 years in EMS and I've never had anything like that happen to me.

6. Numbered Days

A homeless man stopped me while I was walking home and said, "Dark hair and the heart of an old woman...you're going to expire in ten years," then staggered off. Pretty cryptic, but still gives me the heebie-jeebies.

7. My Pet Ghost

At the last house we lived in when the bed in the master bedroom was set up a certain way, some nights it felt like a cat or small dog would jump up and settle in one particular spot toward the foot of the bed. I didn't think too much of it but jokingly mentioned having a "ghost cat" to my husband one time, only to find out he had been feeling the exact same thing in the same spot.

If one has to have a ghost, a sleepy pet ghost is a good choice.

8. Hello, I Mean, Bark

This actually happened last night. Me and my friend were walking home from a party, and we passed a generally abandoned campground. We heard a dog barking, which was unusual since it was one in the morning. The bark sounded weird though. It kept persisting until we both realized what it actually was. It was a guy imitating a dog’s bark.

We heard insanely aggressive crunches coming from the woods, so we booked it back to my friend’s house. Maybe not the creepiest thing ever, but it really freaked us out.

9. Smile, You’re on Film

15 years old. I had just got home from work, so I went to my bedroom to change out of my work clothes and get ready for bed. I'm in the middle of undressing when I look to my bedroom window to catch my reflection and I see a man's face. I dropped to the floor and turned off the lights, scrambling to get dressed, still watching the window. The face is gone, but I'm still watching, then...a freaking camera.

No face, just a camera pointed at me sitting on the floor. I bolt from my room and tell my mom and brother. My brother went outside, and our ladder from the backyard was lying there. But nobody around. I couldn't sleep for a year after that, just stared at that window.

11. Teddy’s Last Words

When I was around 16, my rapidly growing family finally moved from the house I had spent my entire life in. As you would expect, we spent a lot of time fondly remembering things we used to do in the house as we were packing everything up. At some point, I decided to go into the downstairs closet with a flashlight and read, something I used to do when I was younger to get some peace and quiet.

Now, this is one of those deep closets that goes under the stairs; it went back around eight feet and then had a left turn into a very low, maybe three-foot-high, space. This space was largely occupied by a mountain of old blankets and stuffed animals. Of course, this is the most comfortable spot to settle in and read.

About an hour in, I shift a little to get comfortable and I hear a low, slow, warped, hoarse voice say, "You always make me happy." I flipped out, hit my head on the low ceiling, and practically broke the door down getting out. After hyperventilating and explaining to my family why there was no color left on my face, I went back to see what it was.

It was my stuffed Little Bear from when I was three or four years old that I happened to lean on juuuuust right to press his belly. When I pressed his stomach again though, nothing. This poor bear I hadn't played with since I was a toddler used the last of its power, used it's dying breath to tell me I made it happy. You make me happy too, little bear.

When you're not making me pee myself from fear.

12. Good Call

I was 21, looking for a new apartment/room to rent, and had an appointment in the morning to meet a guy I found on craigslist who was renting out a room. I told my mom that I had an appointment the next day. That night I had a dream that I went to the house, he led me inside and showed me the room, and then when I walked past this stairwell that led to a basement, he pushed me down the stairs. Then he tied me to a bed.

I woke up sweaty and obviously freaked out. I looked at my phone and my mom had sent me a text a few minutes before saying “I’m having a weird feeling—don’t go to that guy's house, he’s bad.” Not sure if supernatural like ghosts or just intuition, but it certainly felt like something was keeping me from going there. I didn’t go, obviously.

13. Final Girl Material

I grew up in a hillside house which backed up to about 50 acres of woods. My room was on the second floor so it was basically level with a plateau and a road that lead further up the hill and into the woods. One night I heard something and decided to look out the window. I saw a guy standing along the road just staring at the house.

I flipped out and my mom came into the room. When she saw the guy, her reaction was unbelievable. She proceeded to go outside and tell him to screw off, which he promptly did. She told me she wasn’t scared of anyone and would have knifed him. I was 10.

14. Waiting…

I was walking around school early in the morning and passed a parking lot area where not a lot of students hang out, when I saw a girl intently watching a guy from behind a wall. It wouldn’t have been that creepy if it weren’t for the fact that her body was completely rigid. She didn't peek her head past the wall or anything. She just stood there; half of her body concealed.

At the time I didn't think much of it, but then I saw the guy again at a shopping mall about a week later. About 10 meters behind him was the same girl, watching him with a weird smile. Nothing ever happened to that guy and I don't know much about the girl, but when I look back at it, I just think, "What the heck?"

15. Beautiful Ghosts

I lived in the middle of nowhere in Ireland growing up. A friend and I were camping outside in our field. We hear this singing in the middle of the night. My friend unzips the tent and looks out, he wakes me up and tells me to come to look. There in the middle of the field is a woman. Pure white skin, blonde hair, a dress made of some really light flowing fabric... tunic-like.

She's walking slowly across the field singing in Gaelic. I still have everything burned in my mind, from how she looked to how she sounded. Her voice was light but yet kind of raspy. Everything about her was ephemeral. My friend wanted to go talk to her, I pulled him back into the tent and we ended up hiding in our sleeping bags till the next morning. I'm almost 100% sure it was a fae. We were too far away from other people for it to have been a random person.

Another story is that I saw a ball of light over a nearby field another night. It hovered about 10 feet off the ground and then sped off over the field ridiculously fast. Then it disappeared into a hedge. No idea what it was. I'm a skeptic when it comes to ghosts, aliens, monsters, etc., but I'm a believer when it comes to the Fae.

Those things are real, and they ain't the little Tinkerbelle-like things. Fae are tall, beautiful and dangerous.

16. Just a Peep

When I was a teen I worked at a cable access studio and made mini-movies. My neighbors gave me their father's old video camera. They told me he never used it but it didn't seem to work anymore and had a tape jammed in it. I fixed it up and on the tape was hours of him driving around at night and filming people through their windows.

Nothing overly risqué was on it, but there is something unsettling about seeing Peeping Tom footage of a guy eating dinner with his family or over 20 minutes of some girls dancing around in their room.

17. Just Plain Gross

From afar, saw a mate in high school having a bad coughing fit. He then coughed out what seems to be a huge wad of phlegm and mucus, he then looked around and proceeded to stuff it into his pants' pocket.

18. The Flannel Man

I took a picture of my parents with one of their friend’s phones while we were all playing cards one night. Looking at the screen to line up the shot I saw nothing weird. As soon as I took the pic an old man in a flannel sweater was standing behind them staring out the window.

19. Hard Sell

I was watching scary movies and I got hungry, so I decided to go out for a late-night Taco Bell run. I lived alone at the time, so it was quite a shock as when I opened the door a hand was reaching in after me! I slammed the door on the offending arm and ran and grabbed a butcher knife. After closing all the blinds and sitting in the dark for an hour, I worked up the nerve to look outside.

I was shocked to find a bunch of Chinese food menus for a new restaurant scattered all over the ground.

20. Just Tell Me

My dad wasn’t home and it was just me, my sister, and my mom. This was during the day and the way our living room was arranged you could see into the dining room. The dining room light was off but out of nowhere, it turned on. All three of us were in the living room and no one else was home. We’re like, what the heck? After a few minutes, it turned off.

It happened a few times and my mom commented that it was her deceased brother, who passed as a teen, looking over us. My sister said something like, “Well, tell him to stop that,” and the light immediately turned back off and didn’t turn back on again. There is probably some kind of more reasonable explanation, but it was weird and kinda creepy.

21. Lantern Light

My family and I were driving in a thickly wooded area in the upper Peninsula of Michigan. Way up there, like Crystal Falls/Iron Mountain area where most of the homes were owned by wealthy, older people who rent out cabins to vacation goers. We had to drive through a long, dirt road to get to the main road and it led only to privately owned property on the other end.

It was about 5 AM. We saw a figure in a dark cloak, carrying an old-fashioned lantern. I really don't know why anyone would be roaming around private property in the woods where there's bears and other dangerous wildlife at 5:00 AM.

22. More Than Imaginary

When I was very young, I had an “imaginary friend” named Samantha. I vividly remember playing dolls and stuff with her and all that kinda stuff. One day when I was like five or so, I asked her why she would never be at my mom’s. My parents are divorced and have been forever. Sam responded with something along the lines of, “I can’t, your mother will remember me, don’t talk to her about me,” I just said okay and went back to playing with dolls.

Years later, I remembered this (when I was out of my imaginary friend stage) and I talked to my mom about it. She got terrified and made me shut up right then and there. After a while, we finally talked about it. In high school, my mom had a friend who died by suicide, and her name was Samantha. Since that, I’ve always believed in supernatural stuff.

23. Can I Come In?

Not to me, but to my sister. Her husband and her had just had their first child a few months prior. My brother-in-law was working the graveyard shift at his job as my sister stayed home taking care of my nephew. Around 2:00 AM, she heard loud knocking on her back door. She went to go check it out and saw a lady banging on the door asking for my sister to let her in.

The lady told my sister that her husband had just beat her down the street and was looking for her. My sister was hesitant to let her in since she had a newborn in the house and didn't want to interfere. She told the lady that the best she could do was call the authorities for her. The lady told my sister to not call the authorities and to let her in. This is where my sister got suspicious.

She went to get her phone and called 9-1-1. When she went back to the door, the lady was gone. The authorities arrived a few minutes later and they told my sister that the same situation happened a few streets down. Apparently, the couple would do this act to get into peoples’ homes. I'm sure this is very common, but having it almost happen to my sister and my nephew just creeps me out.

24. The Spooky Chair

My husband and I were house shopping and we were checking out this 100+-year-old house with our realtor. We entered through the front door. Nobody was there but the three of us, and nobody was living in the house at the time. We looked around quickly, spending no more than three to four minutes before deciding we weren't interested.

When we got to the front door to leave, there was a big rocking chair blocking it on the inside. My husband moved it without saying anything. I said to the broker, "How did that chair get there?" She just shook her head indicating she didn't want to discuss it and we all walked to the car in silence.

25. The Love Tree

I was visiting my hometown and decided to pick up my old high school friend from his house and take him to dinner and a drink to catch up. He is kinda stressed and tells me that his ex, with whom he had broken up with over two years prior, has been stalking him and harassing him. I drive him home afterward, and it starts to drizzle.

As I drop him off at his house—the neighborhood was dark and quiet by now—we both notice a bag tied to my side-view mirror. It was likely attached when we were at the restaurant. We open it to see a poorly taken photo of a tree taken at night with flash. There was a brief letter, obviously written from his ex, that said: "I buried our first love letter under this tree years ago. This tree is growing from our love."

I made sure my friend got into his house all right and got the heck out of there.

26. Do You See Her?

I have a version of sleep paralysis, so as terrifying as it can be, I’m generally pretty used to waking up to seeing things. I was on a road trip with my friend and we were staying in a hotel off of Route 66. I went to sleep before her and she stayed up to watch television on her phone. We turned the lights off and I started to doze off.

Every so often, I’d wake up to her panning her phone light to the area in between our beds. After a little while, she got up to go to the bathroom. I woke up once or twice to see a dark figure of a woman standing in between our two beds looking at me. Being exhausted from driving and prone to hallucinating when I sleep, I thought nothing of it.

A bit later, I woke up to the sound of a door slamming and my friend crossing the room and climbing into bed… she was laying directly on her side, stiff as a board, staring at me. I yelled, “What the heck, Mary?!” And turned on the light...but there was no one there. My scream brought Mary out of the bathroom though, and I just told her I had a nightmare.

Later that night, I woke up again to see the woman standing in between our beds. But this time, she moved over to the desk in the room, seemingly writing something. I quietly said Mary’s name, but before I could say anything else, Mary cut me off, asking: “Is that you?” We turned on the lights and stared at each other for a minute.

She started to ask me what I’d seen, but I cut her off and told her that we were both too tired to get on the road at three in the morning and we’d already paid for the room. We slept with the lights on in the same bed for the rest of the night. The next morning as we were driving away, we compared notes.

She said she kept flashing her phone light because she kept seeing the shadow of a woman standing between our beds. It freaked her out so much that she went into the bathroom to watch TV with the lights on. She saw the woman walk over to the desk as well. We now both have tattoos commemorating the terrifying road trip from the underworld.

27. The Force

One time in the middle of the night, I woke up for no reason and my ex-girlfriend was staring at our rinky-dink table like ten feet away from us. She whispered, "Look at the water bottle". I glance over and the bottle is floating a few inches over the table and falls to the floor. I've never believed in ghosts or my ex-girlfriend having the force, but since then it's been impossible to shake the memory.

I fell back asleep almost immediately, but the fact that we both woke up at like one or two in the morning at almost the same time and saw the same thing is spooky.

Paranormal FactsShutterstock

28. Just Grandpa

My grandparents’ house was a very active location. It was built in the early 1900s. There is an elderly man there who you can visibly see a lot. Sometimes he was at the bottom of the steps going down to the basement. There is a younger woman who is seen on the second story. We think this is his daughter. Doing research on the house, she passed on around 17 years old of tuberculosis.

Their last names were Whitaker if I remember correctly. We have seen stuff move. We saw a picture frame lift up from the wall and fall to the ground a couple of feet out once. When my mom was a kid, she saw the two front chandeliers swinging in exact sync. A lot of activity tends to happen when there is a lot of people there. So maybe they just don't like all the commotion.

Oh, and the night my other grandmother passed, I was probably eight or nine. I apparently told my mom that grandma had been sitting at the end of my bed and told me she loved me and then got up and left. She had passed away that night.

29. Rabbit Conjurer

Driving through the middle of nowhere New Mexico in the middle of the night, suddenly came upon hundreds and hundreds of rabbits on the sides of the road and in the median, for a good stretch, but not a single on one the roadway, alive or roadkill, on either side of the road. Freaked me right out.

31. Thanks, I Guess

This will probably get lost in the thread but it was when my wife was about seven months pregnant, we were both in the bedroom and she asked me to turn off the bedside light. I was about five or six feet away from it, and she was sprawled out all pregnant like on the bed, within a few moments of her asking me, the light turned off. We both heard the “click” of it too.

We just kind of shrugged it off but it still weirds me out to this day.

32. Get Some Sleep

Back when I worked night shift as a security guard, I would experience mild hallucinations due to my poor sleep schedule. I was doing my patrol and I was feeling particularly out of it, so I kept getting those flashes of movement in the corner of my eye, but I was convinced it was just my brain screwing up. At the site I was working, there is a large warehouse filled with chemical waste that has only one light on in it.

As I'm going along, I see a pale shape on the ground and quickly recognize it as a body. My adrenaline spikes and I nearly pass out. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a CPR dummy the workers left out for training.

33. My Money’s on Satan

I get a bunker mentality on the odd occasions when my wife and daughter are away on vacation and I'm left at home to my own devices. A few years ago, I was gaming in the den with the ladies out of town a thousand miles or so away. From the hallway directly outside the den, I hear a scratching noise that smoothly turned into a raspy shriek like claws on a chalkboard.

Total ice-water sensation from the crown of my head down into my knees. Upon investigation, a paper bag containing clothing donations had toppled over very slowly and the sharp corners dragging along the wall made the sound. That's my official guess. Or Satan.

34. Helen

I was a teenager reading in the living room one day when my mother came out of her bedroom looking shaken. I asked her what was wrong and she said she was lying in bed reading when she distinctly heard an old friend of hers, Helen, say, "It's okay, honey." They were very close but hadn't spoken in about six months, as Helen lived in another state.

Freaked out, she called Helen's house a couple of times. No answer. Helen lived in a rural area, and so on a hunch, she called the local hospital and asked for her, whereupon she was put through to her room, a nurse answered and asked who she was, and Helen's husband then came on telling my mother she had passed on 10 minutes earlier from aggressive cancer that had come out of nowhere a few months before.

Helen hadn't wanted to worry my mother, so she didn't tell her. No way to fake it, no reason to. Witnessing the whole thing was direct proof for me there was some kind of afterlife I hadn't believed in until that moment. No idea what to think now, I'm not religious, but there is something...

35. The Walls Fall Down

I was sitting in our office room home alone when I was 19. I was typing a paper for one of my college classes. The office room used to be my sister’s room before she moved out, so a lot of her decorations are still there. She had a photo of a mountain range, an oval-shaped mirror, and three different hangings that read "faith," "hope," and "love." This makes five total things hanging on the wall in the room.

Suddenly, I got random chills. Which happens all the time, it was pretty cold. But this time, as soon as I got the chills, everything in the room hanging on the walls fell off simultaneously. This really freaked me out, but it got a tiny bit worse. I got up and walked out of the room only to notice EVERYTHING hanging on a wall in my house had fallen.

All the pictures in the living room and other rooms, all the trophies in my room from little league sports, and even a stand that held candles. I wasn't sure what to do. I picked up all the stuff and hung it back up, which actually took me around 15-20 minutes. Then I drove to campus to finish my paper. I never told my parents.

It's also worth mentioning this happened around noon on a sunny day three winters ago.

36. Catch!

My childhood home was haunted. Lots of weird stuff happened that my brother and just kinda accepted. Once when my brother and I were seven or eight we were in the kitchen drawing pictures with crayons. They were in a big butter tub with a flimsy plastic lid. My mom said she was going to shower, and to put the crayons away because we were going to dinner.

She went upstairs, the water turned on, but my brother and I could not find the lid to the bucket. after a few minutes of looking, I finally asked, "Did someone take it?" It then flew at us like someone had tossed a Frisbee, but then it got worse: we could hear someone laughing hysterically. We were the only ones in the house, and mom was in the shower.

37. Dogs You Don’t Want to Pet

I was sleeping in my living room that had a clear view of the kitchen. My mom would get up every morning to make bread for the house. One morning, I watched from the living room couch as these dog-faced beings dressed in Native American-style clothing walk around her. She didn’t notice a thing. I noticed it all.

38. I’m Trying to Sleep, Demon

I've had multiple times when I’ve woken up in the middle of the night and was sure I could see a figure in my room, until I turned on my bedside light. Usually, this scares me a bit but my most memorable one was waking up thinking I saw some short figure at the end of my bloody bed and saying, "Screw off, I'm trying to sleep," then returning to burying my face into the comfort of my pillow.

It seems like it worked.

39. Going Up

At my previous job, when our building was still under construction, the only floors that were occupied were the first, second, fifth, sixth and seventh. One time, I was alone inside the elevator going from first to the sixth floor when suddenly it stopped and opened on the third floor.

Normally I would just disregard it, but rumors had been spreading all over that a ghost child was playing around on the vacant floors. So I pressed the close-door button as fast as I could. When it closed, I heard noises like someone was tapping their fingers on the walls of the elevator.

40. Skinwalker

I swear on everything I own and my own existence that I saw a Skinwalker. I was driving around the New Mexico desert where I grew up in Shiprock way outside of where I was supposed to be with a handful of friends in my car when suddenly this dog was running alongside us as we were driving 45 miles an hour with really flappy skin.

It was as big as a wolf and then after we started screaming upon seeing it, it ran off in the distance and we drove and drove until we hit a gas station. Scariest experience of my life.

41. Restless

My family told me this. I had fevers very often when I was young. Medicine didn't help. One day, a stranger on the street asked my mum if I was always sick, and who the elderly woman was who was following me. My mum was confused, as there was no elderly woman nearby. The stranger pointed into the air and described my dead paternal grandmother's look, hairstyle and the clothes she wore to her grave.

My dad was from a different town and my mom would have known it if the stranger was a mutual friend. The stranger instructed my dad to tell my grandmother to go back. My mysterious fevers stopped.

42. Please Be a Rat

I fell asleep on my friend's couch in the basement. Something ran into the couch and I immediately got up and ran upstairs. His kid was like five months old and fast asleep upstairs. He didn't have any animals. When I got upstairs his other friend was asleep on the living room couch. He and his wife were upstairs asleep. I laid down on the other couch in the living room and no one else ever came up from downstairs.

He and his other friends also experienced odd things happening in that house, like the trashcan lid moving by itself.

43. The Very Awkward Ghost

When I was a kid, I woke up in the middle of the night to my bed shaking. Normally that would scare the crap out of me, but instead, I was just kind of annoyed. I rolled over and muttered, "Stop it." The shaking stopped immediately. Then a male voice spoke right beside me, saying, "Sorry."

That's when I freaked out. I'm pretty sure my childhood house was haunted.

44. Modern Witch

It was Halloween night, I was in fourth grade I think, there was a cat that came up to me in the neighborhood we always trick or treated in. I have a huge soft spot for cats, so I pet it for a minute or two then continue on my way. The cat starts following me. Then more cats start appearing and following me. This heard of cats followed us for multiple blocks, standing a few feet back, making no noise.

They don't stop following me, so my friend started freaking out, called me a witch on the verge of tears, then made me call my mom to pick us up. The cats left when my mom drove up.

Right after my grandpa passed, his nightly routine continued. The trailer door would open and shut, then open and shut again a bit later. It was like he was having his smoke before bed. Then, a few months ago, I was laying on the bed at my mom’s house. Maybe dozing, I’m not sure. Someone unseen was lightly stroking my hair. It continued as I woke up and I felt someone beside me. Then it was gone.

I still can’t even lay on that side of the bed.

46. Shhh

One time when I was in middle school, I fell asleep on the couch in our living room. Around one in the morning, I woke up and saw a man walk through the wall adjoining our living room to my brother's bedroom. The man noticed me and turned to face me. He had half of his face missing as if he had been dragged along the highway.

He put his finger to his lips as if to tell me not to tell anyone and then turned forward and walked through our glass door out into the yard. Obviously freaked out, I ran into my brother's room to find an empty bed. I run screaming and crying to my parents and they freak out and start calling all my brother's friends' houses trying to find him.

When they finally got in touch with him they found out he had been at a college party drinking about an hour away. My dad went to pick my brother and his best friend up not wanting them to drive home drunk. The next day we got news so disturbing that it made my blood run cold. We found out that the kid who was originally going to drive my brother home passed away after he was ejected from his car during a drunk driving accident.

47. Playmate

Walking into the bedroom to see my kid jumping on the bed while she was supposed to be napping. When I asked her what she was doing, she informed me that she was playing with grandpa. After I ripped the house apart thinking that there had been an intruder inside, I sat down and asked her what this "grandpa" character looked like.

She described my grandfather, who passed before she was born, to a T. Thinking about it, it made sense because that was such a grandpa thing. She said that she plays with him all the time but only jumps when he holds her so she doesn’t fall and when grandma isn't watching. Also, typical grandpa—we got away with everything when grandma wasn't around.

While creepy to anyone else, I'm incredibly grateful that even though both of my grandparents are gone, they hang around and protect my kids, none of which they ever met in life. I firmly believe they were with me when my twin sons were born more than two months early and protected them when doctors said they wouldn't make it.

48. The Chaperone

An ex-girlfriend and I were hanging out, messing around at like 1:00 in the morning on a blanket at a school field. We were there for a good two hours, but after we got up and started walking through the field back toward the parking lot, we saw the silhouette of a man walking toward the parking lot following behind us, from the edge of the field, about 40 feet away.

We have no idea how long he was watching us, but he got into a Jeep near our car but turned the other way on the main road. The Jeep was not there when we got there, and we didn’t see the lights from him pulling in, which we should have. It was creepy as heck.

49. Shared Fear

I was sitting in my room at like 11:30 PM, heard lots of stuff downstairs, assumed it was my mom. I heard her walk up the stairs to my room, and stop. I called out to her, but she didn't say anything and walked downstairs. I went down about half an hour later, only to an absolutely terrifying note. It read, "You're lucky I'm scared too" on it, and a whole bunch of stuff was missing.

I called my mom, she still hadn't arrived home from a dinner she was at with her friends. I called the authorities and locked myself in the bathroom. I think whoever was in my home left when they realized I was still there. When I was hiding in the bathroom, it was probably the most scared I've ever been.

50. Dad Saves the Day

I always kind of entertained the idea of the paranormal, but my first experience really solidified that belief. I live in the rural countryside with lots of wildlife. Anyway, it was late at night, and I was driving down the road a little faster than I should be, when my dad shouts, "STOP!" I slammed on my brakes and this massive elk-sized deer runs in front of the road.

What’s so creepy about that? My dad's been dead for a few years. I'm short and have to sit really close to the steering wheel, so I'm sure I wouldn’t have lived if I hit the deer. I pulled to the side of the road and cried.
