No matter how socially adept you are, dating's not easy. Even with technology.
Before the advent of technology, it could be a grueling process trying to find people that you might possibly match with. You networked and looked for people with similar interests and backgrounds, hoping to catch that romantic spark. You met, went on a date, and eventually learned if a relationship could happen. If you were fortunate there might be a second date, but you never knew.
Nowadays, dating websites and apps have sped up the process, giving you plenty of opportunities to find people to date. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case for most people looking to meet that special someone.
From bad matches to horrible dates, the internet has introduced a whole new world of problems to overcome while dating. Tinder was supposed to make it easier, but as these folks tell it, that hasn’t been the case. Read on for real stories chronicling the worst Tinder dates ever.

#1 Father Needed
We met at a coffee shop and she's there early. I order my drink, sit down, then she looks at me in my eyes and says, "Let's cut to the chase. I need a father for my four sons".
I got up and left.
#2 Stealing Tinder Friends
The date went well, just dinner and a walk, and we said our goodbyes.
The next day she invited me out to a friend's birthday party downtown as her +1. Fast forward to the middle of the party, I'm enjoying myself chatting it up with her friends and having a good time and next thing I know she absolutely loses it and storms out of the bar leaving me there with her friends. I have no idea why.
One of them told me, "She wants you to go after her"! and I said, "It's only our second date". I stayed at the party while I continued talking with her friends. That was over a year ago, and I still regularly hang out with them. They have since stopped talking to her.
#3 Now The Ex
A friend from class matched with my then-girlfriend. He informed me of the match and proceeded to set up a coffee date. Instead of him showing up to the date, I did. I had the pleasure of watching my girlfriend (now ex) freak out.
#4 Coffee And Silence
I met up for a coffee after having quite a nice chat for a few days.
He sits down and says, "Hey nice to meet you," then pulls out his laptop and sits there in complete silence for the next hour. I had nothing with me but my phone, since I thought that a coffee date meant conversation. I should've left sooner.
#5 Cat Sitter
We went on three or four dates and I was starting to get feelings and liked her.
On our fourth date, she asked if I could watch her cat while she was moving apartments. I am not a fan of cats, but I'm a nice guy and kept the cat in my home office.
Long story short, she doesn't answer her phone for over a week and only picks up her cat when I send a message saying it's going to the local shelter within 24 hours.
We went on three dates. The next time she asked to see me, I told her I was visiting family and wouldn't be available until the following weekend. In that moment, she freaked out and sent me a seven-page text about how I destroyed what could have been a perfect relationship and that she wanted to marry me if I would just put her first.
She then left me a voicemail of her singing "U Got It Bad" by Usher while crying and saying she loved me over and over. Two days later she sent me pictures of her burning a bucket list she had made for us.
Glad I got out of that one unscathed.
#7 No Sale
She tried to sell me insurance over dinner. She had a full pitch prepared and even insulted me for choosing my current provider. I split the check and then I split.
#8 Background Check
I went on a date with a woman to a pub where, during the conversation we had, she wanted to take a picture of my driver's license to send and show to her sister via text.
Two minutes later, the woman brought up my DUI I had five years ago.
Her sister had done a criminal background check on me, one-and-a-half hours into the date.
He seemed really normal, was a responsible adult with a job who didn't still live at home and was pretty good looking.
He lived one town over in a fairly rural area, so we actually had some mutual acquaintances. So far, so good. He asked if I wanted to meet up at one of the two bars in town to get to know each other.
So, the night we're supposed to meet, I get stuck picking up some slack at work for a clerk.
I texted him to let him know I was going to be about 20 minutes late. I was extremely apologetic and offered to pick up the tab when I got there. He said no problem, he'd hang out and have a drink until I got there.
Fast forward to my rushing to get out of work, slapping on some makeup, and walking into the bar.
I missed him at first. He looked just like his picture, only 10 years older and 80 pounds heavier. And he was sloppy. Not dirty sloppy, but like lolling his head around and really sweaty.
So I start to apologize again for being late and he cuts me off by yell-talking, "LOOK IF WE'RE GONNA DO THIS THING I NEED YOU TO BE ON TIME, OKAY? I HATE WAITING".
People were staring at us and he was waving the hand he was holding his drink with and spilling it everywhere.
I pulled an "I gotta go to the bathroom" and bailed.
#10 Height Issues
I was talking to one girl who made a comment about my height only being 5'9'' which I thought was pretty rude, especially since she was only 5'4". And then, we started to make plans to hang out that night, and I eventually just told her nevermind, I wasn't really interested in seeing her anymore.
Girls seem to think it's okay to be picky about a guy's height but it's considered offensive if someone should be rude about a girl's weight especially since weight can somewhat be controlled. Height is uncontrollable.
#11 Meet The Parents
I went out to dinner with a guy. He choked on his food and was coughing blood.
We ended up in the emergency room and it turns out his brother worked there. The brother called the parents. I met the entire family on the first date.
#12 Change Of Heart
I talked with a nice girl for about two weeks before she asked to meet up for drinks.
I got there and waited about 30 minutes with no word from her on why she was late. I left the bar about 45 minutes in and the next day, I got a message saying, "Sorry, I saw you across the bar and had a change of heart". I just stopped trying after that.
#13 Rapper's Delight
He made me watch his homemade rap videos and tried to like his own FB page on my phone.
#14 Honesty Is The Best Policy
Perfectly nice date, but 20 minutes into it, she says, "I'll be honest. I know what I need in a man, and you don't have it".
At 25, I would have been crushed.
Wondering what "it" was would've kept me up for days. Being 35, I thanked her for being blunt and was happy to have an unexpectedly free evening.
#15 Bathroom Talk
My profile pic is a toilet. The first time I met a girl we actually talked about toilets for an hour.
We meet, he looks like his pictures, and he tells me that we're gonna go play soccer in the park. Cool! I love sports. On the way, we start talking and asking questions about each other, and I'm getting the vibe we aren't such a great match.
I love to travel, he has zero desire. He only likes obscure sports, I love them all. But hey, I'm here. Stick with it.
The entire time he talks about how he makes so much money and how embarrassing it is for his friend to only make $60,000 a year at his dream job.
I make half of that. I would have left considering the lack of love connection, but I figured I'd be polite until after lunch.
We head out and we arrive at a dollar taco place. Don't get me wrong, you don't have to splurge, but he said, "You've got to earn your meals first" and gave me a creepy smile.
I pretend to take a fake phone call and have to leave, but he insists on walking me to my car.
We get there and I try to shrug him off, but then he leans in for a kiss.
I did what any caught off-guard girl would do.
I accidentally laughed in his mouth. Oops. I was too awkward to say anything and just got in the car, driving away.
Five minutes into the conversation he flips it to the 9/11 conspiracy theories and doesn't drop it even after I explicitly state that the conversation is inappropriate.
I told him later by text that I didn't think we were that compatible, which led to two months of phone calls at 3 am, where he pretends to be a furniture company that had problems delivering my order.
#18 Rich Kid
He was a very popular hipster 'rich kid that didn't want to be rich' dude and I'm a borderline hoodrat that grew up in a rough neighborhood.
I didn't think we'd hit it off but gave it a shot because he looked like Robert Downey Jr. with lots of tattoos.
We ended up having a ton of similar interests and one date became two, two became three, and one month turned into three months.
Eventually, we broke up because he decided to take a job playing his guitar that would let him travel the world. Cue six months of weird, but sweet and sappy (and sporadic) love letters, texts, and calls from different locations all over the world. We both ended up moving on with other people, but we still randomly like each other's photos on Instagram and talk very occasionally.
His band is playing at Lollapalooza, and he's doing very well for himself.
#19 Off The Meds
She came over twice. We clearly hit it off, hence the twice. Reached out for a third date and she replied she was trying to figure out how to get to the hospital. Apparently, her meds were lost in the mail and she waited too long to try to track down replacements.
She got light-headed, nearly passed out and hit her head twice.
I took her to the emergency room and spent the next 6 hours with her while she got tested and checked out. We got to chat a lot, and I did feel a bit of a deeper connection.
We even friended each other on Facebook. And she ended up being ok, health-wise.
I tried to set up the next meeting for real and she got super flaky. Wouldn't text me back for days. Wouldn't confirm plans. So, I took the hint and moved on.
Everything seemed normal until about 45 minutes in, when she decided to tell me about the time she was kidnapped and how she's still dealing with all the lingering psychological issues.
#21 Turned Around
I was waiting for my date at the mall and locked eye contact with him, only to see him turn around and walk away.
I matched with this cute girl and we hit it off immediately. She was smart and funny and we also had similar tastes in books and movies.
Her pictures suggested she was a little chubby, but I don't judge. A week went by until we decided to meet. I had planned the perfect evening, I was so excited.
She turned out to be HUGE.
She was at least four sizes above what she was in her pictures.
She heaved and lumbered towards me, with great difficulty I could tell. I kept the date short, bought her a beer and offered to drop her home.
Dinner itself lasted about an hour. There were a couple of awkward lapses in conversation but other than that I thought we had a good time and a rather normal first time out.
I offered to pay and walked her to her car and that was the end of the night. We planned to discuss over text a second dinner for next week. About 10 minutes into my drive home I received a text message from her. “If you’re not interested in me that’s fine”. I was taken aback considering the night had gone well.
I responded, “I’m not sure where this is coming from. I thought we had a good time”.
I will never forget the next thing she said to me. “I’m into you but you haven’t even used an emoji once when we’ve texted”. Maybe I’m wrong, but flagging non-emoji use as a deal-breaker seems odd to me.
“I don’t really use a lot of emoji," I said. "Didn’t realize that was important”. It was at this point my feelings began wavering on the entire situation.
Her next response was, "If you don’t use an emoji how am I supposed to know you have emotions? Do you have emotions or are you some psychopathic killer”?
I responded back telling her I felt we should cancel our discussion about dinner in the future as this probably wasn’t going to work out.
#24 Outdoor Activities
I went on a few dates with this girl and things were going great.
We were doing a lot of cool activities like indoor rock climbing, running together, going out for drinks. We actually started dating for two weeks when I took a day off of work to go to hang out. She wanted to go for a bike ride through the wood trails around her area, I said I would bring my bike with me.
Little did I know the bike needed some maintenance that I didnt have time to get done. I showed up and said sorry that I didnt have the bike and there was loads of other things we could do that day. She just shutdown. She started balling her eyes out shouting "its not fair"! "I want to go on a bike ride" she had a complete mental breakdown and we ended things that day.
He showed up with his iPhone on a lanyard.
.. around his neck. But he introduced me to Reddit, so I guess it went okay. We are still friends on Facebook. I should really thank him cause I met my fiance on Reddit and he is in the process of moving halfway around the world for me.
#26 Dorm Room Drama
I met another woman who was in an open relationship on Tinder and we watched a movie together in my dorm room. it was kind of awkward. We later discussed how completely lacking in chemistry we were. On the bright side, I'm now good friends with both her and her girlfriend.
We hang out together a lot.
#27 Third Date's A Charm
I recently met this guy on Tinder and so far, I've been on three dates with him. The first date went really well until his car got towed. On the second date, we went to his place, got tipsy, then intimate, then ended up having to go to the ER.
On the third date, we got tipsy again and I started to try speaking Thai. He added me on Facebook after that.
#28 Unwanted Number
I've been on a few Tinder dates, and most have been surprisingly decent. The only negative experience I've had so far is a girl who, since briefly texting and realizing we weren't compatible, has just texted me "Hey" just about every day since. I haven't replied for over three months.
.. I should probably just block the number already.
#29 The Ultimate Betrayal
I got matched with a friend of mine I was really interested in and everything was really cool. We ended up dating for a couple of months after the first night we spent together. Then she slept with one of my best friends.
That wasn't really cool.
#30 Testing The Waters
I got tipsy at a party with a friend who was telling me all about his Grindr messages, so out of curiosity, I made an account. The next morning, I woke up to so many NSFW pictures. My girlfriend got really angry about it for some reason and I had to delete my profile, but at least I know I have plenty of options.
#31 Take A Hint?
We went out for drinks, then walked around the park and was an enjoyable date. I took her home and parked next to her apartment. She said I shouldn't park there because I'll get towed. I told her I only needed three minutes to walk her to her door.
She said seriously, you should park in visitors since you can stay all night and not get towed. I responded that I only needed three minutes to walk her to her door. I am not a smart man.
#32 Picture Confirmation
I had a date with this guy who apparently didn't have the guts to approach me and ask me out.
Instead, he took a picture of me from afar and sent it to me via Messenger, asking if I was the person in that picture.
#33 Too Deep Too Quick
Everything seemed normal until about 45 minutes in when she decided to tell me all about the time she was kidnapped. She explained to me all of the associated lingering psychological issues still present in her because of that incident.
Within the first hour of the meeting, mind you.
#34 The Panera Incident
We talked for a while about our families and I mentioned both my brothers were mentally handicapped. I've worked with people like them to help better their lives. She said I was a really sweet guy for doing that and devoting my time.
Then she told me people like my brothers should be euthanized as kids so they cant be a burden on their families or society. Long story short, I'm banned from Panera.
#35 A Weird Ploy
Not an awful date, but after I told him I wasn't interested in pursuing it further, he insisted that I left my socks at his place and I HAD to get them because:
"They look like really nice socks and I'm sure you would want them back". This went on for several days. Obviously it was a weird ploy to get me back to his house; I just think he could have thought of something way better. I mean, it was winter so clearly I put my socks and shoes back on before leaving.
#36 The Creepy Match
I swiped left on a girl many times, and only on the fourth swipe did we match. I don't know how she kept appearing after swiping her. She then started sending me messages about my personal life that only my close family would know. It creeped the heck out of me.
I quickly unmatched her, as that stuff was too creepy for me.
#37 Invasion Of Privacy
I went on a date with a woman to a pub where, during the conversation we had, she wanted to take a picture of my driver's license to send and show to her sister via text.
Two minutes later, the woman brought up the DUI that I had five years ago. Her sister did a criminal background check on me, one and a half hours into the date.
#38 Gluten Girl
I went out with a girl a few weeks ago who spoke of nothing but her gluten intolerance for the entire two days before our date.
Three minutes into it, she ordered a Coors Light. When I asked her how that was possible, she told me that her gluten intolerance is only from food and not from drinks. I paid for my drink and hers then I just left.
#39 Road Trip Ruiner
My boyfriend went on a Tinder date before we started dating.
The first date was normal. On the second date, he started talking about a road trip he recently went on with some friends and me. She flipped her lid that he dared to go on a road trip with not just one, but two girls and never spoke to him again.
#40 Dinner And A Movie
So for dinner, he takes me to the drive-thru of McDonald's.
He then informs me the movie we are going to see is actually a movie marathon of the last three Fast and Furious movies at a drive-in. At this point, I'm wondering how I'm going to get out of this.
After awkwardly sitting through two of the three movies I tell him it's late and I need to go home because I have to work in the morning.
We pull up to my street and I practically run out of the car and into my house.
#41 Dinner Date
I had someone take me on a dumpster date. Yep, he asked me out for pizza and started walking towards Papa Johns, but ended up going around back for leftovers out of the trash.
#42 Chicken Tinders
We met at a local pub for a few drinks, and we get chicken fingers. The conversation is terrible, but I notice she's taking the chicken fingers and ripping them up in her hands and putting the breading in her huge purse. She smiled and said "Oh, I'm just feeding Sammy" and pulled out a chinchilla from her purse. She plopped the thing in the middle of the table and it just kinda chilled out.
I played with the chinchilla a bit and she got mad at me for playing with it.
#43 "Is This Just A Game"?
I went on a date with a girl that asked me about my religious background. I told her I'm an atheist but I don't dislike religion and I think it has done a lot of good in society.
She got very offended and told me that she was looking for a man to have a Christian household to raise children in. I told her that I wasn't looking for a future wife and she asked, "Well why would you date someone if you weren't considering marriage?! Is this just a game"?
#44 Deadly Date
So this happened to my friend's now-deceased roommate.
He went on a Tinder date, hiking, along the Potomac River. He ended up falling off a cliff and passed away a few days later. That is the worst one I have ever heard.
#45 Housemate Match
I matched with my housemate last week. Her room is right next to mine.
And I'm not sure if it was a joke or not. I mean it's not that awkward since she swiped right also. But still.
